In fact I just did (12 Pro) It will easily last another 3 years, maybe 4 (although it won't get the major annual iOS updates that long) The radiation thing is (a) blown out of all proportion, and (b) fixed with a software update. It really is nothing to worry about.

For $50, it’s a no-brainer. While it does stutter sometimes, it still is a great phone, and runs iOS almost always really smoothly, and it’s a great phone haptically! It’s fine as long as you understand it’s limitations. It’s OS is pretty much most probably the last update it’ll get. I don’t hope for an iOS 16 update.
